
In Bat Country, I try to eat something that was alive recently, avoid anything glowing without a label, and never buy meat from a tunnel vendor who won’t tell me what animal it came from.
Breakfast is usually fungus cakes, vat eggs, or canned fruit if you’ve got surface money. Lunch might be rat kebab, cricket protein, noodles, or a bowl of algae mash. Dinner depends entirely on whether somebody got robbed that afternoon.
The rich eat hydroponic vegetables and printed beef. The rest of us eat whatever survived the trip underground.
My healthiest habit is carrying a flask. Technically, dehydration kills faster than malnutrition.
